Nexus Mods will require mod authors to disclose whether they used AI tools when uploading new mods, while continuing to allow AI-generated and AI-assisted content on the platform. Owner Victor “Foledinho” Folmann said the site plans to make those disclosures clearer for both creators and users.
Nexus Mods already has tags for AI-generated and AI-assisted mods, but Folmann said the existing information needs to be more accessible. The site will also prompt authors about AI use when they edit a mod, and show a dismissible prompt on the “My Mods” page.
Users will be able to filter AI-produced mods out of search results. Folmann said the site is choosing disclosure and moderation over an outright ban, arguing that a ban could discourage authors from declaring their use of AI tools. He said users should be able to choose how much AI-based content they want to see.
Folmann also said Nexus Mods will not use mods to train AI or sell or license them. The site plans to refine its approach to AI-assisted mods and penalize users who violate the disclosure rules.
