The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s remake will adjust the Water Temple, a dungeon long associated with the original game’s difficulty. In Nintendo’s “Ask the Developer” interview, producer Eiji Aonuma said the team made changes to address problems with the area’s design.
Aonuma, who designed the original dungeon, said he had wanted to revisit it. He explained that its complex layout and repeated trips to the menu to equip and remove the Iron Boots could make it difficult for players to keep track of their location and direction.
In the remake, players can switch items more easily using the D-pad rather than repeatedly navigating menus, director HokWai Ng said. The team has also replaced some walls that could make it hard to understand the layout with lattice-style structures, allowing players to see into adjoining rooms.
Aonuma said his original goal was to make being underwater feel distinct, drawing on the different sounds and sensations of that environment. The remake is scheduled to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5.
