A study published by Vivrato indicates that artificial intelligence is already present in the development of most Western video games, although its integration into production remains limited at many studios.

Vivrato conducted 101 confidential interviews with leaders from game developers in Europe and the United States between April and September 2026. The interviews used the same 44 questions, covering nine stages of video game production to ensure consistent results.

According to the findings, 97% of respondents had used AI at some point, while 94% said they had used it in at least one of the nine production stages. However, 52% rated the technology’s integration into development at three or lower on a scale from one to ten.

The survey also identified a regional difference in the use of AI to create art, assets and animations. Seventy percent of European studios said they had used AI for those purposes, compared with 53% of studios in the United States.

Adam Boyes, Vivrato’s founder and CEO, said the central question is no longer which studios use AI, since most of the 101 leaders interviewed reported adopting it in some form. Instead, he highlighted the need to examine where studios are using the technology, what it is changing, how it helps teams and which challenges remain.
