The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch on November 5, and Nintendo has revealed that the development team briefly experimented with adding more fast-travel points than those found in the original game.
The information comes from an Ask the Developer interview with Eiji Aonuma. The original Ocarina of Time already allows Link to learn ocarina songs that transport him to five major dungeons and the Temple of Time. During development of the remake, however, Aonuma noticed that many players used Link’s dodge roll repeatedly to move through the world more quickly, leading him to question whether the game needed additional shortcuts.
The team added new warp points that were not present in the original. After testing them, the developers decided that the system reduced the sense of discovery created when players travel between locations and encounter something unexpected. Aonuma therefore asked the team to remove the added points.
In the interview, Aonuma also explained that the remake’s developers were encouraged to make their own decisions about which parts of the classic should change. Some members of the team had not played the original before joining the project, allowing them to approach its design with fresh perspectives. Aonuma said he observed their process while still offering guidance along the way.
The remake is scheduled to release on November 5. Nintendo is also set to publish the second part of the Ask the Developer interview the following day.
