World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch on Nov. 4, following a beta that reimagines the classic MMO with modern lighting and visual effects while retaining its original style and pace. The preview found that the experience takes time to build, but becomes absorbing as players move beyond the opening levels and explore Azeroth.
The beta included the new Skyborne elf race and its floating-island starting area, Zephras Isle. The previewer also created a Troll, echoing their original World of Warcraft character, but stopped at level 6 to save that character’s progression for the live game. The Skyborne introduction was less convincing, with its isolated setting raising questions about how the game can expand classic WoW without disrupting its established world and lore.
Forever’s combat and progression are slower and more demanding than those of modern WoW. Ordinary enemies can pose a danger in groups, and limited fast travel encourages players to cover ground at a measured pace. The preview found that the game’s scale and variety become more apparent around levels 10 to 20, as players reach cities, unlock air travel, choose specializations and encounter dungeons.
The beta also featured Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns and the new Ruins of Lordaeron. Its group-finding system lets players describe their preferred style as “learning,” “relaxed” or “competitive.” Although less immediate than modern matchmaking, it helped the previewer find groups quickly and encouraged conversation and cooperation among players.
Visually, Forever combines the original game’s textures and art assets with updated lighting, fog, weather and water effects. Players can also choose more detailed HD character models. The preview praised the result, saying the refreshed presentation strengthens the sense of place without losing the look of classic WoW.
The developers aim to expand the game while keeping its level cap at 60, rather than turning it into an ongoing leveling treadmill. Based on the beta, the preview described Forever as a faithful but more polished revival of classic Azeroth, though how the game will develop after launch remains uncertain.
