Lilith Aileron, the younger sister of protagonist Stahn, can be recruited as a party member in the original PlayStation version of Tales of Destiny, according to a newly documented method discovered almost 30 years after the RPG’s Japanese release in December 1997. Until now, players generally believed the game had nine recruitable characters, with Lilith’s inclusion known through cheats and later versions.

The discovery was shared by Azekura, a longtime Tales fan and administrator of the Japanese fan site Majestic Fantasian. Other players have since verified the method in both Japanese and English versions of the game. The exact requirements are still being tested, but the route appears to involve completing much of the game without taking items from people’s homes or being reprimanded by party members, as well as speaking to specific characters at certain points.

Near the end of the game, players must buy a particular item at a specific time and then talk to Lilith. She joins at level 6, far below the party’s likely endgame levels. In the original Japanese release, recruiting her also causes a softlock because a required scene fails to play. The workaround is to save before entering a town, close the game, and continue using the later “BEST” version.

Jun Toyoda, one of the game’s original producers, acknowledged the discovery on X and apologized for the problem. He said the first version shipped with at least five major bugs, including progression blockers, because the team had insufficient time for debugging. Toyoda added that Lilith’s features were supposed to be cut.
