Choosing a class is one of the first major decisions in World of Warcraft Forever. The MMO revises the balance of its nine classes while opening some traditional faction restrictions, including Forsaken Paladins, Dwarf Shamans and Gnome Priests. These changes give each class new possibilities and may influence which playstyle suits you best.

Warrior

Warriors remain focused on close-range physical damage, but Forever improves their rage generation and gives them Victory Rush to make leveling more fluid. Protection also benefits from smoother gameplay, including the ability to charge while in Defensive Stance, while dual-wielding receives bonuses to hit and rage generation.

Arms is a melee damage specialization built around powerful two-handed weapons. Fury focuses on fast attacks with a weapon in each hand, while Protection is the class’s tank specialization, combining a shield with strong mobility. Warriors should appeal to players who enjoy being at the center of the fight and value the impact of obtaining better weapons.

Paladin

Forever allows Forsaken characters to become Paladins, ending the class’s Alliance-only status. Protection receives tools that make it more suitable as a main tank, including a taunt and an emergency defensive ability. Retribution offers more active gameplay through options such as Seal Twisting and Shockadin, while Holy gains strong area healing.

Holy is a durable healing specialization focused on powerful direct heals and improved area healing. Protection uses a shield and excels at managing multiple enemies, while Retribution deals melee damage through seals and judgments. The class is suited to players who enjoy supporting their group with auras, blessings and strong defensive abilities.

Hunter

The Hunter receives one of Forever’s more substantial reworks. Survival becomes a genuine melee damage specialization that can use traps during combat and has enough defensive potential to tank five-player dungeons. Marksmanship gains a 45-meter sniper shot, while the Lone Wolf talent makes playing without a pet more viable by increasing damage.

Beast Mastery relies heavily on a tamed pet to deal damage. Marksmanship is a pure ranged specialization built around powerful shots, and Survival uses traps and quick attacks in melee combat. Hunters may appeal to explorers, solo players and anyone who enjoys controlling the battlefield through ranged attacks, close combat or pet management.

Rogue

Rogues in Forever can now use axes in addition to daggers and swords. Energy regeneration is also smoother, replacing the former two-second resource intervals with a continuous system. Assassination is more strongly focused on poison damage, while Subtlety places greater emphasis on daggers.

Assassination is a melee specialization that weakens targets with deadly poisons. Combat is a more direct style that can use swords, maces or axes, and Subtlety focuses on stealth, attacks from behind and crowd control. The class is designed for players who prefer to decide when and how an encounter begins.

Priest

Priests become available to Gnomes in Forever, and all races can access abilities that were previously limited by racial restrictions, including Devouring Plague, Fear Ward and Shadow Word: Death. The class also gains new mechanics, such as a Smite-focused playstyle that can generate Holy Nova effects, while Discipline receives Penance as a powerful healing tool.

Discipline prevents damage with protective shields, Holy provides reactive and versatile healing, and Shadow deals ranged damage over time while passively healing allies through vampiric effects. Priests are suited to players who want to protect allies or wear down opponents with shadow magic.

Shaman

Dwarf characters can now play as Shamans, bringing the class to the Alliance. Its specializations gain more explosive tools than in Classic. Elemental receives Lava Burst and Overload, Enhancement becomes a viable tank for five-player dungeons and gains Maelstrom Weapon for instant lightning spells, while Restoration adds Riptide and Water Shield. Ghost Wolf can also be used indoors with the appropriate talents.

Elemental is a ranged damage specialization based on lightning and lava attacks. Enhancement deals melee damage and can also tank five-player content by empowering weapons with elemental effects. Restoration focuses on healing several nearby targets. Shamans should suit players who enjoy supporting a group with utility totems while combining nature magic with melee combat.

Mage

Mage gameplay becomes more dynamic through new proc-based mechanics. Arcane can use Arcane Blast to generate free missiles, Fire gains Hot Streak for instant Pyroblasts, and Frost receives Fingers of Frost and Ice Lance. The Frostfire Bolt hybrid is also available. However, Blizzard’s slowing effect has been reduced, making large-scale monster farming more dangerous.

Arcane manages mana to unleash powerful bursts of energy. Fire relies on critical strikes and instant explosions, while Frost combines survivability and control by freezing enemies. Mages are intended for players who want to deal significant magical damage, control the battlefield and provide utility such as portals and food.

Warlock

Forever expands the Warlock’s options by making the class available to Trolls. Affliction and Destruction can more easily sacrifice or do without their demon to increase personal damage. Destruction gains Incinerate, while Affliction receives Torment, a channeled drain that strengthens other curses. The return of the Spirit Link and Siphon Life combination also allows dungeon tanking with a Voidwalker.

Affliction specializes in damage over time and shadow magic. Demonology focuses on empowering and working alongside demonic summons, while Destruction uses fire and chaos spells for explosive ranged damage. Warlocks may be a good choice for solo players who enjoy managing dark companions and slowly draining their enemies’ health.

Druid

Druids benefit from several major improvements. Balance receives an Eclipse system that rewards alternating between Wrath and Starfire. Druids can also resurrect allies outside combat without a cooldown, addressing one of the class’s limitations in Classic. Feral gains key attacks such as Mangle, and Restoration receives instant area healing through abilities including Wild Growth.

Balance deals ranged magical damage in Moonkin form. Feral can either tank in Bear Form or deal stealth-focused melee damage in Cat Form, while Restoration heals through mobility and damage-over-time effects in Tree of Life form. Druids are the most versatile option for players who want to adapt to every role, as they can tank, heal or deal damage depending on their chosen form.
