FromSoftware's Bloodborne remains a commercial force more than a decade after its initial release, continuing to sell hundreds of thousands of copies annually. According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, the PlayStation 4 exclusive moved over 251,000 units in the current year alone. Analyst Rhys Elliott noted on social media that the game has accumulated an estimated 10.4 million sales since launching in March 2015, generating approximately $317 million in revenue.
Beyond direct sales, the title maintains significant engagement through Sony's subscription service. An estimated half a million players accessed Bloodborne via PS Plus in October. Data indicates strong overlap with other FromSoftware titles among this cohort; 12% of these players also engaged with Elden Ring this month, while 6% played Dark Souls 3 and 5% played Sekiro. Elliott observed that a dedicated group of gamers consistently moves between different entries in the developer's catalog.
Despite its enduring popularity, Bloodborne remains one of the few PS4 exclusives without an official PS5 update or remaster, officially locked at 30 frames per second. While modders have managed to run the game at 120fps on higher resolutions using PS5 hardware, official efforts have stalled. Reports indicate that Bluepoint Games, the studio behind successful remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, pitched a Bloodborne remake last year. Contrary to speculation that Sony rejected the proposal, it was reportedly FromSoftware itself that declined the pitch.
The status of a potential remake has been a subject of conflicting statements from industry figures. In 2024, FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki stated he could not discuss a remake because his studio does not own the IP, though he acknowledged the game would benefit from modern hardware. The following year, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered a personal theory regarding the lack of updates. Yoshida suggested that while Miyazaki loves the title, his success and busy schedule may lead him to prefer not having anyone else touch the project, a wish the PlayStation team reportedly respects.
While a remake remains uncertain, other projects related to the franchise are active. Sony announced an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie earlier this year, produced by YouTuber JackSepticEye. Meanwhile, FromSoftware is preparing to launch The Duskbloods, a recently delayed Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, next year. The developer's most recent release is the co-op spinoff Elden Ring: Nightreign. Miyazaki has reassured fans that the studio remains focused on single-player experiences. Although he stated in December 2024 that an Elden Ring 2 was not currently under consideration, he did not rule out the possibility for the future, and an Elden Ring film is also reportedly in development.
